Privacy Policy
Effective 8 November 2026. Applies to the Focus Arabic extension, version 2.2.0 and later, and to this website.
The short version
- When you hover an Arabic word, the Arabic words of that sentence are sent to Google's Gemini API with your own API key. Nothing else from the page is sent.
- There is no Focus Arabic server, account, analytics, advertising or tracking. Gkernel never receives what you read.
- Your settings and saved sentences stay in Chrome's own storage.
- On Gemini's free tier, Google may use what you send to improve its products.
Who we are
Focus Arabic is a product of Gkernel, a software company in Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh. On the Chrome Web Store it is published by Niloy Mahmud Apu, Gkernel's CEO. In this policy, "we" means Gkernel.
What is sent, and to whom
When you rest the pointer on an Arabic word in Word or Sentence mode, the extension sends the Arabic words of that sentence (at most 30 words) to Google's Gemini API (generativelanguage.googleapis.com), using the API key you entered. Nothing else is sent: not the page address, its title, or any other text on the page.
- Nothing is sent while Focus Arabic is turned off, for all sites or for the site you are on.
- A sentence that is already saved is never sent again, unless you choose to re-translate it from the dashboard.
- The extension contacts no other server.
Google handles that request under the Gemini API terms and the Google Privacy Policy. Under those terms, if your key uses the free tier, Google may use what you send to improve its products, and human reviewers may read it. On the paid tier, Google does not use it for that. Do not hover text you would not want sent to Google.
What is stored in your browser
Your settings. Your Gemini API key, the model, the hover mode, the on/off setting, and the list of sites you turned Focus Arabic off on are kept in Chrome's sync storage. If you are signed in to Chrome with sync turned on, Chrome copies them to your other computers through your Google account. The key is sent only to the Gemini API. The site list is used only to decide where Focus Arabic runs.
To show the switch for the site you are on, the toolbar button reads the current tab's address when you click it. Only the site name (such as example.com) is kept, and only when you turn that site off.
Saved sentences. For each sentence you hover, the extension keeps the following in Chrome's local storage on your computer:
- its words, their harakat and meanings, and its translation
- the model that produced them, and the date and time
- the address and title of the page you read it on, so the dashboard can link back to it
None of this is sent anywhere. You can delete one saved sentence from the dashboard, or all of them in Settings, and export them to a file. Removing the extension deletes them.
Sharing
We do not receive, sell or share any of this data. The only third party involved is Google, which receives the sentence text to produce the harakat, meanings and translation, as described above.
This website
focus-arabic.gkernel.com uses no cookies, analytics, advertising, or third-party scripts or fonts. The service that hosts it may keep standard access logs, such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, to keep the site secure and running.
Children
Focus Arabic collects no data for us from anyone, including children. The only data that leaves the browser is the sentence text sent to Google, as described above.
Changes to this policy
If the way Focus Arabic handles data changes, we will update this page and its effective date before the change ships.
